I've had credit crunches in my life. I called it 'grad school.' My friends and family bailed me out. The banks certainly didn't.
In my honest opinion, I believe this whole sitation could have been avoided if the banks had allowed people to readjust their mortgages to allow them to keep their homes if they were able to maintain the payments they were making before their ARMs ballooned. I had a brief stint in the mortgage industry 10 years. I never understood how this shit was not gonna hit the fan.
The power brokers in suits simply didn't care. They got greedy. So, I'm not really in favor of the bailout.
But I am in favor of Barney Frank. This was another great Barney Frank moment.

Saturday Night Live, Palin, Couric, and More
In 2008, which I'm naming The Year of Great Ineptitude, here's some things that truly inspire hope:
- SNL is funny again!
- Americans are actually realizing that Palin is an extremely stupid, and dangerous, VP choice (just imagine her overseeing this current financial debacle)

Save the Economy
Save the Economy is a really funny thing someone threw up.
But it got me thinking, what if this bail-out was indeed done by people offering micro-loans in the amount and manner of their choosing, with a high rate of interest return. You know, like Kiva for our country.

Daryl Hall Rocks
You've got to check out Live From Daryl's House. This episode features Finger 11, and thus far Family Man and I Keep Your Memory have been the highlights for me. Daryl's the man. Good PA peeps.
Great series. Here's a super tight version of Family man performed with Chromeo.

Oasis is Taking it to the Streets
You can say what you want about Oasis. Good or bad, I'll most likely agree with you.
But you gotta admit, enlisting street performers to play their new songs around town--before they've even been released--is a pretty cool concept.
The new album is called "Dig Out Your Soul." Learn more about it at Creativity.

Hotel des Arts
My friend d was part of the art exhibit. It was both surreal and fitting to go there and see art that used to hang in the living room of our place in the Mission.
Imagine an old Victorian-style hotel from any English film. Only packed full with modern, eye-popping art lining 4 floors of narrow, densely packed hipsters, arties, and a bunch of peeps that haven't fully made it back from Burning Man yet.
The best part was the Shephard Fairey room. That guy does some cool stuff. I loved way he plays off of iconographic type images. And the detail of the 'wallpaper' of the room was amazing. The way the black 'tiles' (that's what I'm calling them okay) fractured and collided with the red tiles in an organic way that was somewhat rippling was my favorite part of the night.
Cool stuff. Amazing scene.
Lots of great art. I was so impressed. Much fun. 30 minutes of mishing my way around and taking a bunch of pics. It was hot and constricted in there, so I was ready to jet after that.
On my way out, I finally ran into my gang. I wished d well, but it was too hot and crowded and I wasn't going back in.

America's presidential race | The Palin effect | | The Economist
The Economist is about as close to objectivity as you can get. It doesn't care about party, it truly orients itself towards economics. It really is just my opinion, but I do feel they give it to you as straight as they can. I find myself reading other news sources less and less.
America's presidential race | The Palin effect | | The Economist: "Mr McCain has also been caught telling some straightforward fibs, for example that Mrs Palin, as governor, had “never” sought federal earmark money for her state—her request per head for Alaska was the biggest in the country. He and Mrs Palin continue to insist that she killed an infamous “bridge to nowhere” project in Alaska, even though every journalist in America now knows she did so only after supporting it, and only after it became a political albatross. Mr McCain has good reason to worry about his reputation for straight-talk, the strongest part of his political brand."

Not much I can say about this piece by Reyes. Other than you can see the price there and it's probably worth every single cent.
